Ravenhearst

Opening in the year of our Lord, 2000, this is the future home of our sanctuary. Our vision includes many ways to help enhance the life of animals and the ways our lives intertwine. Our programs will include a no-kill shelter; an abused/abandoned animal rescue unit; educational programs designed for schools and civic groups; a visitation program for elderly homes and children's hospitals, etc.

Let me try to paint you a picture of our vision:

This will be a sanctuary for critters and plant life. It will be located on not less than 100 acres. It will be self contained and self sufficient. It will be built in the tradition of the Kentucky horse farms, with at least four buildings built to look like the barns at many of these farms.

One building will face the entrance and will house a no-kill animal shelter/adoption centre/offices. This building will also house the exotic critter centre. Another will be the home of our equestrian centre with horses and other livestock. The third will serve as an aviary filled with birds, an education centre and a man-made cave which will house bats. The fourth will be a grooming /examination area with a kennel run for canines & an enclosed area to isolate felines. The outer perimeter shall be surrounded by double wooden fencing, which will be painted black. Each area of the sanctuary will be sectioned off using this black fencing. The outer fencing shall have some sort of blockade near the ground to discourage small animals from venturing out onto the road.

We will take in stray and/or injured animals, give them needed medical attention and attempt to find them good homes. NO animal would be killed because we could not find it a home. Programs will include: visitations to children's hospitals and nursing homes; educational programs for schools and day care centres; vocational training in grooming, obedience, vet tech, animal husbandry, etc.; free adoptions to the elderly and needy; reduced fees clinics to elderly andneedy, pet insurance, etc. Eventually we would have a medical centre on property.

At the far end of the property will be an area used for commercial ventures which shall fund the sanctuary. There shall be a medieval castle, which shall house a small hotel/B&B, a restaurant, and shops. Beyond the castle will be the area used for the medieval festival. On the other side of the roadway will lie the campgrounds, to be used by vendors during the festival and guests at all other times. There shall be a bathhouse with showers, toilets and laundry facilities.
